Account and workspace

Prepare an account that can sign in to Data Xpert and confirm that:
  • the current organization is the one you intend to use;
  • you are in the target AI workspace;
  • the workspace can access at least one data source or external resource;
  • you know which Assistant will be used if you plan to work through Agent Workbench.
Organization access does not automatically grant workspace access. Ask an administrator to authorize the workspace data sources when they are not visible.

Data sources and resources

Quick Start requires an accessible data source or a registered external resource. You can use an existing semantic model, database, SAP OData service, or knowledge resource. If no resource is available, ask an administrator to complete Resource Access, including the resource type, connection reference, and capability settings. Then return to Quick Start and run the first sync.

Permissions by role

An administrator should complete the initial configuration, after which responsibilities can be split as follows:
  • Administrator: register resources, manage Secrets, run syncs, and review audits;
  • Modeler: edit, validate, and publish ontology definitions;
  • Agent builder: use Assistants, Agent Tools, and the workbench;
  • Governance user: configure policies, process approvals, and review audits;
  • Read-only user: search ontology entities and run low-risk queries.
Actions still pass through discovery, simulation, policy checks, and audit. Do not grant arbitrary backend access just to make a task succeed.

Secrets and connection references

Before registering a resource, create a connection Secret under Data and Ontology → Secrets, then use the generated connection reference in the resource configuration. The address, credentials, and certificates in a Secret must point to an approved business system. Never place sensitive values in documentation, screenshots, or action parameters. After these preparations, follow Quick Start to complete the first resource sync and read-only query.
